In 2009, when my daughter, Audrey, was born…I was born a mother. In 2011, when our second daughter, Mari, was born…I was blessed to become a mother again.

How I Got Here

As someone who has spent most of their life running…either on a soccer field or on a track…it seemed only fitting that after becoming a mother, I would also become a distance runner. In October 2012, I completed my first marathon with my 3 year old, 1 year old and husband cheering me on. In the fall of 2013, I decided I wanted to tackle another 26.2, but this time I wanted to make it about a greater cause. This is my journey to raise awareness of maternal health around the globe, to support the work of Every Mother Counts, to constantly challenge myself and to be a role model to my two little girls.

Team EMC

I knew 100% which organization I wanted to support. As a long time follower of Every Mother Counts and a huge supporter of their mission, I laced up my shoes and began logging miles through one of the coldest winters Duluth, Minnesota has ever had in preparation for the 2014 Los Angeles Marathon. As a runner for Team Every Mother Counts, all of the below zero running didn’t even phase me. After completing the race (where it was 97 degrees warmer than my last run in Minnesota at -10 degrees), I knew I would run for Team EMC again. Even though LA wasn’t my fastest, I was hooked.

Now, I’m training for the 2014 New York City Marathon…a dream come true! All while raising awareness of maternal health in the United States and around the world.

I couldn’t be more excited to run for Team EMC and all of the amazing work they are doing. You can join me in solidarity to support mothers worldwide and make pregnancy and childbirth safer for every mother. Follow me on this journey!!
